Cheryl met her husband Ernie in 1979 when she was a drive-in teller at a bank. Back then, Ernie was a news anchor for a station in Macon, Georgia. The two fell in love and got married on August 21, 1982. They have two biological children together: a son named Eric and a daughter named Maggie. Later on, the couple adopted four children: Michael, adopted from Romania, daughter Carmen, adopted from Paraguay and daughters Ashley and Allison who were adopted domestically through foster care.
Cheryl and Ernie live in Braselton, Georgia along with their six children.
