Trent and Cassandra met while they were both students at Fresno State University. On the couple’s first date, Cassandra fell asleep twice.
The Seattlepi.com reports:
“Their courtship was another competition. Dilfer and another good friend shared a class with Cass, and both were very interested in the petite, brown-haired, natural beauty. The friend got the first date, but it was Dilfer who fostered a friendship and eventually won her long-term affection. “You could say he won the battle, but I won the war,” Dilfer said with a laugh. “And he’s still a great friend of ours.”
Trent and Cassandra dated for eleven months before their wedding. Both Trent and Cassandra were 21 years old when they married before Trent’s junior year of college. They lived off Trent’s scholarship allowances and Cass’ income from coaching youth swimming. The wedding ceremony of Trent and Cassandra was performed by Joe Broussard.
Dilfer and his wife Cassandra, a former Fresno State swimmer, resides with his family in Saratoga, California in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The couple has three daughters (Madeleine, Victoria, and Delaney) and a son named Trevin, who is now deceased. On April 27th, 2003, Trevin lost his 40-day battle with heart disease at the age of 5.
On June 2nd, 2003, Trent made his first public comments regarding his family’s loss and, still grieving, openly wept.
