Jakub Varana is a Czech forward that plays professional ice hockey with the St. Louis Blues of the NHL. The Washington Capitals drafted him in the 13th round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. According to Lou Korac of NHL.com, Jakub Vrana was injured in his nose during practice Wednesday. He will not be available for Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild. Vrana, despite his injury, has been playing well lately. He scored two goals in 14 games and one power-play goal in those four games. He is expected to be in the game tonight at 8:15 p.m. but he left the ice during morning skate after a collision that resulted in a skate blade going under his nose. Following stitches, his nostrils were closed, and both of them had been gauzed and taped around his nose. Vrana survived the injury, although it could have been worse. His status for the game remains uncertain.

As announced by the team, the Detroit Red Wings placed forward Jakub Varana on waivers. Vrana recently completed an AHL conditioning program, which was extended indefinitely by the Red Wings. He was on a leave from NHL/NHLPA and had undergone rehabilitation through the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.
